I have a terrible time with squirrels. I use chicken wire above what I am planting, then cover with some dirt. The squirrels won't dig once they hit the wire. Hope this helps. It has allowed me to have tulips and other plants.

Since the plants are already in the ground you can try making spray with hot pepper and garlic and apply blood meal and castor oil.

You could go to a sports shop and buy some fox urine. Sprinkle it around your beds. Reapply after rain.

I use black pepper...the regular table variety. Sprinkle it around the flower bed and I have not had a problem with any of the area critters (squirrels or rabbits)
