Quickest & easiest way to dig multiple holes for posts in pit run?

We have mainly pit-run gravel here & we are looking at putting in fence posts to secure the area around our well head-for prevention of hazards to the water supply. The quickest & easiest is what we are looking for... What do you suggest?

Rent or consider buying an electric or gas auger! It is money SOOOO well spent, if you have several to put in. Used one to plant 20 trees, and I don't know if we would EVER have finished with a post hole digger alone!
