How to fix crumbling bricks on a chimney?

The top 3 three layers of brick are starting to crumble on our chimney. Is there a way to fix it ourselves without spending hundreds of dollars?

I suggest getting a mason and having it done properly. When you sell your home, a home inspector will check the chimney, so you'll have to get it done properly at that time. Get estimates now, before it gets worse.
