They're very tough to get rid of. Our yard was overrun with them last summer. The poison gummy worms our pest control guy used didn't work. We finally resorted to a product call "The Giant Destroyer". We bought it at Farm & Fleet, but it's also available at Amazon and I think Home Depot may be carrying it. This product basically fills the mole tunnels with a Sulphur odor that gasses them. It's the only thing we found that worked for us.
Gopher Purge works for us; buy the plant & plant it in your flower bed. Dig out the hills of the moles/voles so you can see into the tunnel; place 1 or 2 leaves [depending upon the leaf size] into the tunnel & cover it over. Watch over the next few days for any activity; IF you find new activity or hills re-built...repeat the process. Soon the critters may be in your neighbor's yard & you will have to share this information with them as well! NOTE: Some people are mildly to highly allergic to the sap of the plants [milky sap like poinsettia] so PLEASE WEAR GLOVES when handling this plant. This plant will grow a large spreading top & should be staked, the seed pods look like bishop's caps & contain 1 to 4 seeds-prune off the seed pods when they are beginning to turn brown...or they will re-seed in many places. The plant generally lives 2 years.

How do you know for sure they are voles? Are the plants out of the ground with no roots left?
