You will need to have someone come and drill/punch holes into the bottom of the pool if you are going to fill it in and make it disappear. Other wise, whatever you plant in there and water will eventually just be a big underground container for mud. Like a potted plant, the pool will need some drainage holes. Also, have the edge of the pool removed. The reason is that, with the weight of the water gone, the pool can heave itself out of the ground after a season or two and be very uneven. It's much easier to do it while the pool is still empty -- good luck, sounds like a major change!

    M. M. is right. I would go to a local renovation center or visit this site to begin with. You can actually save money now but have it come back to bite you should you decide to sell. You have to tell people what you did and fix it if they son't want to.

How big is the pool? It will have to have some method to drain. If you end up with loads of cobbled up concrete that you have to remove, you can offer it up on Craigslist or put it out near the curb with a "FREE" sign. You could also repurpose the concrete to make edging for a walkway or build a retaining wall.
