Dig a hole twice the size of the rootball. Add some peat moss to the hole and mix in with the existing dirt. Fill the hole with water. Gently place the tree into the hole and refill with dirt. Gently tamp it down. If the tree is small you may need to buy a tree support kit to wrap the trunk and help brace the tree from strong winds and to grow straight until it is large enough to stand on its own.

From my experience-get the people you bought it from do it and then if it dies, they are responsible for replacing it, you are not.
