Pros of Metal patio roof is the longevity of it. I think the only con(which is not a big one) depending where you live when it rains hard the noise factor and wind.
When I lived in Baltimore City (more than 40 yrs. ago), I had a good quality one installed. We used it in the summer when it rained to sit at the picnic table and eat dinner or eat Maryland crabs with our neighbors. My son - who was two at the time - played on the patio under the metal awning and had a blast. We never had problems with noise from rain, and of course, when the wind kicked up we went inside. We lived in a townhouse so had to be careful that the awning did not encroach on our neighbor's right-of-way (6" allowance on each side).
We had one at my mom's house when I was a kid and it was there for literally 50 years. My dad repainted it several times, but we were outside in all kinds of weather and it was great! Practically no maintenance - just make sure it is properly installed so it does not fly away in high winds. I loved it and am looking into one for my current home maybe next year.
