Because trumpet vine is such a rugged plant, persistence is really the key when it comes to taking steps to get rid of trumpet vine. You can use boiling water as an herbicide to kill trumpet vines. Cut the vine at the ground and treat the ground 3 feet around the base with boiling water. Boiling water is effective, but some roots will escape and shoots will regrow. Keep an eye out for these and pour boiling water on them as you find them. Good luck!

    Thank you Shoshana

  • Or try vinegar. But, you will have to wait a season and heavily amend the area before replanting.

KillsAll. Spray carefully Only where you want it. Not on a windy day, and cover anything nearby you need to protect. I've used this to successfully kill poison ivy with a main stem as big as my wrist.

I have trumpet vines, and they are a pain... Ive used boiling water and it was milding effective in my area (Texas). I ended up cutting the vines down to a stump and smothering the stump with an upside down pot so no sunlight could get it. After a season, the roots rotted and I have had no issues.

Thank you. I have dug out the roots three times now going down 3 feet and never water. They are the living dead and come back again and again!
