Tulips in tubs - do I lift the bulbs and replant next year or leave

You can save until next year, but my mom always tells me to plant my bulbs in the fall.

• The cool thing about bulbs (or any perennial plant) is that you don't have to dig them up at the end of their season. If you’re planning to raise perennial tulips, feed them when you plant them in the fall. Bulbs are their own complete storage system and contain all of the nutrients they need for one year. Use organic material, compost, or a balanced time-release bulb food. Deadhead tulips after flowering.
• Allow the foliage to yellow for about 6 weeks after flowering before removing it.

In planters they may freeze easier that in the ground, but they need to have the over winter cold most likely to come back and bloom nest year. Being above ground they don't have the protection from the cold all around them. You could try taking them into the garage for the winter and setting them out in the spring.

The beauty of most bulbs is that you leave them in! Yippeee!
