I would hire a professional as most times the mold you can see is only the visible part of the problem. You may have extensive molding behind the walls and other areas you can't see. A professional can also tell you if the mold is a health hazard like black mold, in which case you may want to rethink purchasing the property.
The bigger question is why mold is forming is the first place. You may have a leak inside the walls or a roof or foundation problem. Mold in an old house definitely a red flag.

Call in the pros for an inspection before you purchase the home so you know outright how extensive the damage is. Then make your decision. Mold remediation costs can quickly escalate. Or request in your offer that the mold is to be remediated prior to the closing of the sale at their cost.
Thanks
Where is the mold? We had an issue in one of our rooms, and leaving the window open during the day (in a very dry climate) plus cleaning with bleach a few times was enough. But if you get it consistently in the winter, it could be that there is not enough insulation and it would be good to have someone come and look at it.
