How can you start indoor plants from cuttings?

I love starting new plants from cuttings, but some never make it. What is the best way to start plants?

What plants are you referring to?

I put them into an ivy owl filled with water. Change the water every few days. This doesn't work with woody stemmed plants, but does work with many.

houseplants, any kind

You kind of have to know the needs of the specific plants. Some thrive under indirect light, some like bright light, etc.
