Have you thought of some power strips that not only provide extra outlets but you can invest in ones that act as "surge" protectors as well?
Most jurisdictions have specifications about installing electrical. (I worked for a county agency for 23 yrs.) If it isn't done correctly, you could burn down your garage/house or hurt yourself trying to install. Is it worth risking your home or putting out the bucks to have installation done correctly. I agree about the power strips, but don't overload!
I agree with Gvargo1959. Be very careful about DIY electrical connections. Some counties, towns, and cities have laws that require a licensed electrician. Having said that, my ex did do added outlets in a new room when we raised the roof on our house, but he had to have it inspected before using it. The inspector came and everyone had told us to make a mistake because they always find something wrong. My ex did a great job. It passed on the first inspection and is fine over 30 years later. I still agree with Gvargi1959 though, if you haven't done this work before and don't know all the local codes, hire a professional. It's not worth burning your garage and/or house down.
If you have worked with electricity before and know what you are doing, go for it! If not, hire someone as your family is not worth the risk. Know your codes too, some municipalities have wacky rules. And you want to make sure it will not void your homeowners policy.
