There could be quite a cost involved for installing this
if your angels are 69 and 72 they might have a hard time climbing the stairs to do laundry :) That was a joke...:) I am assuming that was a mistake.
I know many peopel that have laundry rooms upstairs...but...I also know ONE person that had a major flood when the washer hose wore out. THOUSANDS of dollars in damage to 3 floors !!! No thanks....
My husband and I did this several years ago in our split foyer home and we LOVE it! Wish I had done years ago...we did the work ourselves with much assistance from our very handy and capable brother in law....the laundry is right off the kitchen which is also used as an extra pantry etc.....the space was an unused formal dining room...much better use of the space and I know also have a laundry sink which I use all the time.....Susan Sims...ps...wish I had pictures on this laptop
Is there room downstairs to convert a room into a master bedroom ? Would that be more economical ? It would certainly be safer, as you age, than tackling the stairs daily .
I had an upstairs laundry in an old farm house and I loved it. Far easier to carry the odd kitchen towel and table cloth up to the laundry, than toting all our clothing down, then up again. We were putting in plumbing and wiring anyway, so cost was going to be incurred no matter where we put it.
Not a good idea. My laundry room is downstairs in the basement and I don't like lugging it up and down stairs and I'm still in my forties
I agree with most of the people in this string that a downstairs laundry room is best for older people. I also agree that the cost of ground level plumbing is less costly that going up to the second level. We just went through a reno that took us two years (a DIY accomplishment for us) and we installed the laundry room in our garage. In case of flooding due to water hose bursts, or equipment failure, no damage will result. Our Homeowners Insurance inspector dropped our yearly premium $75 just for this reason. Think it through thoroughly as this can be a very inexpensive or costly decision. Also, check with your insurance agent, it may save you a few bucks.
Think about having a laundry shoot put in from above your washer
