Daylillies in all sorts of varieties give great color and come back with a punch! Balloon flowers are gorgeous, perennial hibiscus, and azaleas - depending on your climate. I also have had great luck with hummingbird vine (trumpet vine) if you have a trellis or fence for it to climb on :) Good luck, Helena!
Here is a shot of the balloon flowers in my garden. Another couple of great blooming plants are Salvia and Veronica!
I love the "Wave petunias"
Day lilies, peonies, some herbs, depending on where you live. I try to avoid bulbs and roots that have to be dug up every Fall.
Salvia is a great choice. Agapanthus and coleus are easy too.
Day lilies, hostas and coneflowers are great and don't have to be dug up every year as well as regular and moonbean coreopsis.
