What perennials to plant under bird feeders that stand 5'?

I have a hanging bird feeder with a squirrel baffle on the pole. The baffle sits at the 3' mark. I don't use sunflower seeds in the feeders. There are no shell droppings, just don't want the squirrels to be able to jump from anything I plant. The area is getting brief morning sun and late afternoon sun, light shade rest of the day. Area is 4' x 4'.

I have some Scottish Broom and ornamental grasses. Birds can sit but squirrels are too heavy.
Try using lower perennials like Hostas,heaters,blue fescue grass,mondo grass,Liriope,and Astilbes.
I have hostas and huge ferns under my feeders and I have never had a problem with squirrels in my feeders, they take the seeds from the ground when they want them. The seeds have never grown under the feeders that I can tell.
Nothing a cat can hide in, I hope?
