try smothering them out with newspapers, cardboard, and heavy black plastic
Here's what I would suggest. Cut them down to about an inch. Now go boil some water in a tea kettle. When it is boiling take it outside and pour it on that 1" section that you left of the weed. That boiling water should kill the roots. Just be sure you're not putting any boiling water at the roots of other plants or it will kill those as well. With a tea kettle's small spout you should be able to get the boiling water just where you need it.
Spray them with vinegar or boiling water. Keep on it and they will go away. Here is an article that might be helpful - https://www.houselogic.com/by-room/yard-patio/how-to-get-rid-of-weeds-naturally/ - good luck
Do not know picker weeds however it seems not enough to get rid of only some roots you have to get rid of all roots not sure if its your front/back garden but I use pieces of old carpet they kill all weeds but do look unsightly perhaps the winter is best time to do this when growth is dying back Janets idea of black plastic can work too just slower.
In addition to the picking, try boiling water and vinegar! Good luck!
