It's a decorative tape that comes in a multitude of colors and patterns. It is often used in scrapbooking.
It's decorative tape in all sorts of designs. Most of them are about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. You can find them in crafts stores.
Easily confused for masking tape because of its look and feel, washi tape is typically made from natural fibers (like bamboo or hemp) or the bark of trees native to Japan — such as mulberry tree. Though the texture may somewhat mimic masking tape, washi tape is infinitely superior because of its pretty designs and strong, durable versatility.
It is a Japanese tape similar to masking tape. It comes in several widths. A roll is usually sold in short lengths. Some are colorful and patterned, others single colors. The might have a low tack for easy removal, or a higher tack to become a more durable part of an art project. For instance decorating a storage container simply by placing a strip of it around the top rim. They can, as is, be used to make colorful posters or frames for photos. And I simply love to use them to mask or frame areas I am painting as I add color blocks, or layers with paint to a wall or part of a wall to create a mural on the wall itself.
