Can you write on washi tape?
I have some gorgeous translucent washi tape and I want to use it to label items. Has anybody written on washi tape before?
If so, what type of pen/ink works best to stop the ink running, and should I seal the lettering with something to prevent smudging?
Thanks for the help!

How can I stiffen crepe paper?
HelloIs there anyway I can stiffen crepe paper leaves?
Hi Tivka, for the most part yes. Some washi tapes that are foil may not be so easy though, but you could likely get away with using sharpies.
Sharpie brand pens work well. I've used the standard ones as well as the permanent ink pens. You can also choose from 3 different size points, fine, medium, and thick. I didn't have trouble with smudging if I wanted for the ink to dry before touching.
Hi Tikva: Yes, but you need the correct pen. Here's a site that tells you which are best: Which Pens ACTUALLY Write on on Washi Tape? 🤔 (youtube.com)
Definitely wait for the ink to dry. I bought some Sharpies at an office supply store, they had 20 different colors and also different size tips. The trick is to wait for the tape to dry.
You could probably use a Sharpie/permanent marker or paint pen.
Yes, I've used fine tip Sharpie
You can buy pens for the purpose at the store or online.
I've found that permanent markers work the best, in fine point.
Great question! Yes, Sharpies and other permanent markers work best. You can learn more here: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/washi-tape-ideas-44843299
Absolutely! Certain kinds of pens and markers work in different ways, but using a nice dark color on a light colored tape should work fine. You could also take a gel ink white pen and use it to write over darker colored tape!
Hi Tikva! You can write on many tapes, both standard and of the washi variety, with ballpoint pens, permanent markers, and pencils.
