Glue is what I would use.
Glue would be my guess but maybe you need small brad nails to hold it in place.....not sure of the size of your rope. I have seen it on the ceiling between wall and ceiling but have not seen it around trim on doors or windows.
i would use a glue gun with glue sticks to attach the rope
Hot-Glue gun ! !
You can use small tack nails to it can easily be removed later or you can use hot glue. When you are ready to remove the rope you can heat it up with a blow dryer and release with minimal damage to walls.
We used finishing nails to attach rope around a mirror. The nails disappeared into the rope.
