Honestly it looks like a very tall weed. However what is your location so it may be identified differently?
nope
I was thinking the same thing we have a lot of them in north Texas
If you did'nt plant it, it's a weed! 'Nuf said.
check with a garden store professional. They are waiting to help you.
Could be that haunting sumac weed if it gets tall and gets maroon berries in the Fall. If it is, many have historically made dye from its berries.
Okay Fred. How come you didn't tell them to use Purple Power? lol
Rhododendren
this is not a Rhododendron plant of any kind. I just spent ten minutes looking at different ones, this is not it.
I do recommend that you ask someone, such as a Gardner, or even an arborist.
People at the garden centre will not have a good clue, they are not trained in plant identification. They are trained on how to sell you something which usua means ( Reading the back of the product).
I do wish you luck in identifying this plant.
milk weed
Call your Wake County Extension Office or take the picture to the office, there should be someone there who can tell you. This should be free service
milkweed has thinner leaves
Maximilian sunflower. I have some. They get up to 8 ft. and have small yellow daisy-like flowers up the stalk. They bloom late summer. Very nice in the right place but no d of invasive.
Kind of invasive. Oops!
It looks like poke weed.
Mexican petunias.
Does is bloom purple flowers in the morning? If so, I would also say Mexican petunias.
Check with your local college botanist or Forestry. Looks like a form of "Lady's Thumb" (which does not always have a dark spot on the leaves). If so, it is VERY INVASIVE. Weed is in the eye of the beholder. Lady's Thumb does flower but like I said it is very invasive and will take over your garden in no time.
THAT BE A WEED! GOT A WACKER?
My rule of thumb is - give it a tug - if it is a weed the roots should come free way too easily. I say this because we know that it is for sure NOT a dandelion!
Weed
there is a app you can get for free ...take a picture on your phone & it will tell you what it is
If you don't like it spray it with Round Up
coffee plant
It is actually a young poke plant. I have one in my yard and saw plenty of them when I lived in the south. Here is a link to show you what they look like full grown, and there is a photo of a young plant that looks like the photo you posted.

I think it's a weed. If it were a flower, you'd expect some buds/blooms by now. Take 1 leaf to the nursery and they'll tell you.
I know its a weed, because I'm always pulling that one out of my garden.
