I would remove the rhododendron.It looks like it was stricken with disease.Next carefully examine the soil and consider planting a perennial in a pot for now until you make sure the soil is disease free. Consider Heuchera in a bright color.
Definitely. Put a new one in, but check quality of soil for it in that location if the other one wasn't happy there. 😀
I would say that that plant is beyond saving...take it out. i would replace it with something low growing that will take part sun. As you silvermound grows up that space is going to get pretty full
from my past experiences i have found issues down the road replacing shrubs in the same location.Sometimes it is hard to detect the issue so I take precautions until I know the issue is gone insects,fungus etc.Once you remove the shrub,dig around to see if there are visible signs.
i would cut all the way almost to the ground if it dosent bloom this yr it may next yr. what have you got to lose?? Try it I cut all mine down to just above the last bloom on each stem.
This plant will not recover.Remove it.
