Coat it with a varathane, marine varnish.
You can try spraying it with a fabric protectant,but as a precaution I would purchase a extra one.
Spray with scotch gaurd
Have you considered using the spray-on(or) brush-on clear liquid sealer to keep the original cloth color, but protect it from any weather damage?

We live in the Midwest and our gazebo cover last us few years by taking it down every fall and puting it back up at the end of every spring, this way we avoid the snow weighping down on it every winter.
