Wash it out with white vinegar, allow to dry and place coffee groundds, baking soda,or deactivated charcoal in them.Place them outside in the sun
You can try a mixture of lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide. Apply it for a few minutes and then wipe with a dry cloth.
I don't know about the mildew, but before I put my suitcase away I usually put a dryer sheet in it.
When storing suitcases for any period of time, place a dryer sheet, charcoal or a cotton rag dipped in essential oil in them. Make up bags are typically lined, just hand wash.
stuff them with crumpled newspapers, and could also use fresh dry kitty litter, or baking soda to refresh them, Leave it there for several days , then check it.'
I like to use cotton pads soaked in drops of essential oils such as lavender and tea tree. Also, I've found eucalyptus works well
I love these bags: https://smile.amazon.com/Moso-Natural-Purifying-Eliminator-Eliminates/dp/B004BOH6BM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1501183617&sr=8-3&keywords=bamboo+charcoal
If you have an odor:
First I wash the item with hot soapy water (with a microfiber cloth if it can't be thrown in the wash). Air dry (with sunshine if possible).
Then, with items I'm closing up like a suitcase, I toss in the charcoal bag. They are rechargeable in the sunshine and biodegradable after two years of use.
