Painting the wall.
You can paint it, wall paper over it, or do a faux paint treatment on it. It all depends on your personal taste and how much work you want to do as well as your budget. You can even remove the paneling, but that often ends up being a lot of hard work, and more expensive to put up drywall then finish and paint.

Paint or use vynal wallpaper or cover with wallboard.
You could carefully remove the paneling and turn it backwards and then paint the smooth surface
Paint! My aunt did it and took dark paneling into today. She painted white so it took a good few coats. That's been a couple years ago so I think paint technology has improved greatly since you may not need as many. Depending current finish on paneling you might need to sand lightly Before.
