I dunno, clean it if you like bright brass, otherwise I would leave dark or paint with Rustoleum hammered metal paint. The light fixture is at the bottom right? I can see one of those new drum shades on it to give it a more modern look. https://www.google.com/search?q=shallow+ceiling+drum+shade&client=opera&hs=eI2&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjI1d_viNXVAhUN-mMKHf1mCooQ7AkIWw&biw=1366&bih=629
Thank you! The light is at the top and pull chain is at bottom. It has a very long heavy chain to hang from.
I would just clean it up first, then decide if it fits with your decor - if not, then you can decide what to do next.
Unless you want to retain the lamp in its original design, I would use the patenio paints or a kit and cover it.
I wouldn't clean it, just paint it, I like the drum shade I'd eat. i am a little confused, the light bulbs are at the top of the fixture? Meaning they will be up at the ceiling & the dark metal or brass part hangs down.
I think it is nice the way it is, and would hesitate to paint a possible antique. Look carefully for any markings as to the maker before you paint or anything.
Thank you both! I will first clean it then see.
It will be beautiful! That is a treasure.
I think it is beautiful. Now I am not sure the drum shade will work since the lights are at the top. I am wondering how it would look if you reworked it & have the lights at the bottom?
