Treat the first 5 feet or so like a foyer by putting in a small table and mirror, rug, small table lamp and plant. Like a small room vignette.
Maybe a 1/2 wall is sufficient. And you could add a large frame with either shelves or chicken wire. This would allow light and not make the entry feel closed off.
Are you able to block the door with some sort of cabinet? You could have the cabinet facing into the living room and then cover the back up with some sort of paneling.
I see shelving that's see thru and not heavy wood ,more like metal.can use for storage also .console on other side .looks more like a hall way instead of open space.
If you reverse the door inside to outside and outside to inside it will swing out instead of in. t takes a little work to do that but it is worth it. I had the same problem with little room with it swinging in. Please make sure you paint it with a good exterior paint to protect it from the weather. If you have a porch that it will swing onto that works too. You also need to switch the locks. Hope this helps you. Have a great day.
