Hello SisLeahM, It looks to me a lot like black nightshade.
Put on a pair of gloves, and take it to the nursery. They will know, and truly help you., and they will be safe, and honest. Best wishes, J.
Always be careful when you handle an unknown weed, you never know if just handling it will be dangerous.
My theory if in doubt wait and don't not touch it.If it should flower you may be able to identify it at that point. If you want to get rid of it ,cut it all the way down, wearing a mask and gloves, apply white vinegar and a dab of salt and soap. That is providing there are no other trees, flowers or shrubs.
Poison Sumac is tricky because it can present as a vine, a shrub or a small tree. I would take as clear a picture of it as possible and take it to a reputable nursery or your county to try to identify it. I have not found any homemade products that will eliminate this, or ivy or blackberry or even Bermuda grass. Again your county may be able to help
Here are more pictures. It's actually growing over the old cement property wall that separates our property from our neighbor. We don't have alleys in the county. Just great big lawns.
It doesn't have the tri- leaves you usually see with Sumac or Poison Ivy, but to be sure I'd still consult with your county
I maybe wrong( usually am) but it looks like a young dogwood starting to fruit, red berries in the fall.
And let us know what you find out!!
