I had this happen also and called the gentleman who cleaned my carpets. He told me not to touch it and he could get it out. He came the next day when I was at work and I couldn't see a trace after he had finished. He had especially told me not to try polish remover because that would just spread it.
yes! !
I have a product from NAPA Auto Parts store called Purple Power. I had spilled red ink on my new jeans as i was re-filling my stamps at work. i thought they would have to be thrown away so when a friend recommended this product (even though it's not it's intended cleaning purpose) I said "what have i got to lose". it worked!! i worked it in and washed the jeans and after doing this twice, they looked brand new. it did not eat the fabric or anything. since then, i've used it on my daughter's sweatshirt that she rubbed greasy fingers all over. i figured it would eat the fabric but nope. again, rubbed it in and repeated washes and it looked brand new. this product is awesome. Just dilute it in a spray bottle, use gloves!!! and give it a try on the spots. when my new couch's legs bled dye into my light carpets i wish i had had it then!!! i know how you feel.
Good luck!!

Can't share a cure as I still have a small stain in my daughter's room carpet and it has been there for over twenty years. If you figure how to get it out, please post for the rest of us.
I had peach polish on light green carpet brand new. I will take some work but GooGone took it off. Like new still!
Not really funny, but it reminded me of the time my little grandson spilled red nail polish on my month old white carpet, while also applying it to his mouth like lipstick. I went for his mouth first, then polish remover to the carpet. Mistake!! all that did was spread it into a bigger aea. Lucky for me, I had a piece of carpet leftover and I had the carpet store come repair the area.
Try Goo Gone or WD40. Do not rub. BLOT. If those don't work try some OOPS.
Try Nail Polish Remover.
Recently on the Rachael Ray Show, Peter Walsh used sugar or salt (sorry I can't remember which one) and rubbed it into the spot and it came right out after he let it sit for a few minutes. Try googling or checking her website to see if this method comes up.
I used a combination of nailpolish remover, a spray from Dollar General called "Awesome", and water.
I used the nailpolish remover 1st on a cloth and got quite a bit of it off. Then I saturated the area with Awesome and scrubbed away. I blotted up as much as I could, then saturated it with plain water. It was nearly gone! So I let it dry overnight and repeated the process the next day and my red nailpolish was gone!
