Go to your local big box store and tell them what you need to do around that toilet base...you may not need that big a line of caulk and can possibly use DAP which is a tube of self contained material where you just squeeze it out without the awful metal gun which is bulky and messy...
caulking gun ? pull back.. start at the back and pull around to the front.. A contractor showed me how to get t good line.... PAINTERS TAPE (green FROG is the best) placed on the floor close to the toilet will give you a sharp line. Be sure to use a STEADY squeeze and movement as it comes out. You can buy a small tool at the hardware to smooth it out or just use your finger..let it dry then remove the tape
Start in one corner by placing the tip of the tube in the area and pull the trigger on the "gun". Move it backwards to another stopping point. You will have to let the trigger go and pull again as it needs to refill tube. You can also go back over any thin areas to add more caulk. The trick to getting smooth edge is a wet finger. After placing caulk in area, wet finger in small container of water and slowly drag your finger over the crack with caulk. Don't push, just smooths the top so that you have smooth edge. Takes practice but you can't hurt anything. If you don't like what you have done, remove with kitchen knife and do over. It is not permanent until it dries.
use a WET finger...I second the dap...unless you're chalking enough to use the big tube.
You mean caulking gun, mine you pull the trigger towards you. Cut a fine angled cut off the tube nozzle, not too much.
I learned a great trick while working in the maintenance department of a very large facility.
Use painter’s tape to tape off the area you’re going to caulk. It’s a little tricky around a toilet because of the shape, but tear small pieces and it works. Tape above and below where the caulk needs to be. Then, it as thin a line or caulk that will fill the gap. Smooth it out with a wet finger till it’s smooth.
give it a few minutes to dry a tiny bit and remove the tape. If you wait until the caulk dries, it will pull it all out or mess it up.
The Crucial thing now is to make sure it gets dry without getting wet.
