You may have a lot of hair built up in the drain. You can find this little slender plastic thing with barbs on it at home improvement stores for about 2 dollars that will grab the hair and pull it out. The baking soda and vinegar works great for the greasy soap scum residue that builds up in the pipes, but doesn't dissolve the hair. If that doesn't work, you may need to get the drain snaked, the problem may be further down the pipe.
I use vinegat in all my drains monthly. Occasionally I need baking soda & hot water to bubble in drain & unclog it.
As you have already guessed, the drain is probably clogged with hair and soap and shampoo. Bathtub drains are harder to clear. If somebody use uses it has long hair, or if anybody takes frequent tub baths, a clog is more likely to happen. TUBS have funny plugs and are shaped differently than sink drains. The least expensive thing to try next is a wire coat hanger. Straighten it out, but double the hook for hanging back so you have something to hold onto. Stick the wire down the drain as far as you can, then plunge it up and down a few inches. Now SLOWLY pull the hanger back out. You don't want a wad of hair and gunk to slap you in the face. Repeat the process because to get rid of the whole clog, there has to be a hole for the water to go all the way through. If after 2-3 times with the hanger you see no improvement with the drainage, go back to chemicals. Try with the vinegar first, up to a whole quart if the line will hold it. Then add the baking soda this time. Keep your face away from the drain. Allow it 15 min. to work. Turn on the cold water and see if it drains. If not, go for the strongest Drano in the quart size. Follow directions completely, then repeat. If this still doesn't work, call a full service licensed plumber. They may have to dig up your sewer, cut roots, replace pipes, go into the wall, make repairs, etc. $$$ Best wishes 😇
I take he strainer out with a screwdriver then use needle nosed pliers to get the hair out. It gets tangled together and can come out with pliers and patience.
pull the drain plug or take the drain cover off and run a hair remover in the drain...I'm bettin you have a lot of hair and gunk buildup..1/2 gal hot water followed by 1/4 cup baking soda then followed by 1/2 cup vinegar let sit, then follow with 1 gal HOT water.. this will help , but a good drain over to stop hair will help more than anything after you get it clean..
You may have to call a plumber. Have you purchased an auger/snake that is inserted in drain for about 6'. Purchase at Home Depot, Lowes, Ace. Maybe your main house drain is clogged.
go to Home Depot and buy a small handcrancketSnake than Slowly use it in an out? It wi bring up all that hair and soap scum! It's a slow process but it works!and talk to the Salesman at Home Depot first and explain your situation!been there done it!
Did you get the gunk (hair) out by using a small plastic snake? Then use your homemade remedy and use a plunger when you run the hot water after the waiting time.
I would not reccommend Drano, as it can eat the pipes through. If a coathanger does not clearthe hair (which is probably what is slowing the drain), most hardware stores carry small snakes. Ask the oldest guy working there what you need and how to use it.
Yes and thank you all
