Laminate? It ranges depending on the style you want, is easy to install and they have some really great looking styles.
We used vinyl planks that look like hardwood. Very inexpensive and very easy to install.
Vinyl! Easy to clean too.
I ran into the same dilemma. I couldn't wait until I could afford the flooring I wanted before I pulled up some disgusting carpet in the guest room. I put a paper bag floor over plywood. A lot of people thought I was crazy and it wouldn't look nice or it wouldn't last. Those doubters were very impressed when it was done. Well it still looks great, and it has held up over a year very well. I'm thinking of doing the rest of the house the same way.
I think that will work great!
Laminate flooring is the cheapest., and you can lay it yourself.
