How to use/get rid of large volume of fresh, sap conifer tree limbs?

My husband "limbed up" the lowest 10 feet of limbs from 2 huge spruce trees at the end of our driveway. Some were dead, others still had fresh green needles, and all are sappy (cannot burn in indoor fireplace).
1. What uses could these limbs have for fun, interesting, or useful DIY home or garden projects?
2. Are fresh spruce limbs garden-friendly sources for chipping into mulch, or does the sticky spruce sap (or wood chemistry) make this material unsuited to that purpose? (or will it gum up the chipping equipment?)
