I used cute signs to add to the back of the walls under the cabinets with sayings and pictures that I like because I am going to change out the counters soon and did not want to add any tile that might not be the right size or color. It is inexpensive and can be farm house style or modern.
If you are going to resell this house, use easy-to-remove contact paper for the backsplash.
