Sort through and make piles, donate unwanted items, pack away unused clothing shoes etc. Do one room at a time as not to get overwhelmed
The only solution in my household is to go through everything and sort what you love, what you just like and what you really have not used for awhile and donate everything except what you love and use the most.
Invest in under bed boxes and the bags you vacuum down and store out of season clothes, extra bed linens, comforters, pillows, etc. and put them up in closets, under beds, on shelves in basement, etc.
Start in one corner and work your way to the end. Sometimes we are overwhelmed when presented with so many things to get organized. Make each area into small projects and prioritize them. Make yourself a list. You'll be surprised how good and accomplished it feels when you work your way down the list and cross off items as they are completed. Remember the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
Go through all your items room by room. Keep what you use and love and donate the rest.
Get some honest friends over, and sort, sort, sort! And try to be honest. Also, don't buy storage containers until after you sorted so you get the right size for your piles.
When in doubt, go without. I have that mantra in my head on cleaning days.
throw some of it away
