I've used the flesh of a walnut rubbed into the scratches that will minimize the look of the scratches. I'm sure there are other commercial products available that will also work.
Go to www.fastcap.com and order the SoftWax wood repair kit. You rub the wax on the scratch like a crayon, scrape off the excess and buff it out.
