How to repair damaged lacquered floor lamp?

The lacquered scenes on the sides of the lamp are barely damaged and very pretty. However, the tops of each section are a solid color with pitting. Any ideas how to fix the pitting?

If they are small pinhole type pits (dots) you can find the same color nail polish and fill in the divots.
