It also helps to clean all garden tools every time you use them, especially the lawnmower.
After weeding your beds, place a couple of newspaper layers on the ground around your plants, covering the dirt completely. (overlap so no dirt shows) You will find that weeds will not grow through the paper and if a few get through. they're easy to pull.

I found a recipe (it might have been, here, on Hometalk) for weed killer that uses 1 gallon white vinegar, 2 cups Epsom salts and 1/4 cup blue Dawn dish liquid. It's sprayed on the weeds and works quite well, without chemicals. We all know to blow away from flower beds when we mow, etc, but birds and the wind will do their thing no matter what we think they should do .
Yes, it's pretty strong and will kill all kinds of plants. Only spray it on weeds, just like you would any other weed killer.
Do not spray on plants you want to keep.
