    Hostas naturally die back

Hostas don’t need cutting back but they will eventually need dividing. Always remove leaves that are turning brown because they rob the plant of moisture. Also remove the spent flower stems.

Just let them die back when the weather turns cold, then clean up the dead leaves. I do cut off the spent flower stems as soon as they die. Some hosta lovers remove the flower stems when they emerge, preferring only the leaves of the plant.

I agree....when they grow larger than you want just dig up and divide. Usually spring and fall.

A easy way to cut them back is to use a sharp serrated knife. Hold the top leaves and saw the base with the knife. Be sure it is serrated
