peonies die back naturally.The rhinzomes feed from the foliage
Never cut back ur peonies until all the vegetation has died. Peonies get their vitamins from the leaves. You will be happy with bigger blooms in the spring.
I cut mine back in August. They come back in the spring and do fine. Plenty of blues!!
I do not cut my peonies until the spring & then cut the dead branches.
Husband got tired looking at them, and cut them back. Thanks for the answers. Linda from Chesterfield, MI
