Is there a good way to rid my lawn of some patches of crab grass?
I am in the Sacramento, CA area, and I started getting crab grass patches a few years ago. I spray them and the seem to die, but then others appear. Perhaps I need a better spray? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kill with vinegar and then dig out. Stay on top of it, it spreads sooo quickly.
you might have to keep working at it...try pulling the roots out of the ground and then put new grass seed on that spot cover with straw... work in small areas and get controll of one area at a time. good luck
The seeds are dropped by birds and other critters and could also be blown in with the wind, so you will never truly be without crab grass. I believe it moves in by the root system, so if you miss one it will still move in. Beware of some of the suggestions, vinegar will kill anything it touches and sterilizes the soil so nothing will grow there for a while. Boiling water, card board, will also kill anything it touches, but at least you can reseed with boiling water. Cardboard will have to sit on the spot for a long time. I would continue the way you have been doing it and just keep an eye out for new spots. Do what you are comfortable with.
