Not sure I quite understand what you are asking. Does ". Down" = "brown"? If you want a worn look, spray with silver then before it dries wipe some of it back off or wait until the silver dries and use fine sandpaper to remove the silver just until the brown shows through. Once you are satisfied with the appearance a clear satin spray finish will keep it looking good for years.
buy that inexpensive craft paint in little plastic bottles and apply w sponge. You may wish to mix black and silver together after the first coat of silver for that "antiqued look"
You can spray it and lightly sand where you want the brown showing through. Or you can spray it and wipe off the excess. Its its got a lot of nooks and crannies, the first way might be easiest.
Craft shops sell Silver Foil for the purpose + Glue
Agreed - silver foil and glue could go a long way! Ask at the craft store if they have a particular recommendation for foil!
I would buy aluminum leaf is much cheaper, and Japan size, then add the size wherever you want the leaf. On round tubing it would be easier to pre-cut smaller squares or rectangles to work with.
