You need to set the dye. Just soak in cold water and vinegar. Or do in washing machine, turn inside out and do a vinegar wash. Then stretch and air dry.
You can reall prevent this, but you can keep it to a minimum by washing them in cold water.
Make the first time you wash the jeans just a short wash. Do not put anything else other than similar denim in with the jeans this first time, as a little of the color will come out this first time, as soon as they get wet.
Add vinegar during the final rinse cycle, or if possible hand rinse with vinegar in the water.
Hang to dry until half dry, then if you feel they are too stiff to wear, you can put them in the dryer to soften them up, no higher than medium for the final drying.

Wash in cold water :) Good luck!
