I put a wet/dry shop vac at the entrance. Fill the shop vac with a gallon of soapy water run mid-day till dusk/dark.
Use an insecticide dust that is registered for use on ground nesting wasps and bees on the soil at and around the nest opening. Then rake the soil to cover the opening. Hope that helps.
Do the above after dark. They don't leave their nest when dark. If these are ground hornets they are mean and will follow you as you run so be careful if doing anything around the nest during daylight hours. Ask me how I know.. Pulling weeds and the neighbors dog and I got stung several times before we could get half block away. Wow they hurt!
Where are they located in relation to any structures!
