what items exactly are you referring to
Airing them out is the best way really. I like to put dryer sheets and use Febreeze wherever I can. Good luck.
Fresh air or Febreeze .......
Air out. Wash what is washable, and soak in baking soda (in the soak cycle) over night. Air dry in the bright sun if possible. Sun kills old mildew spores.
Sometimes it is difficult depending on what the content (cotton, plastic, paper, etc.) of the items is, and how long they have been stored.
Can you be a little more specific as to what you want to try to refresh?
White clothing was in bleach and water, colored clothes wash with 1/2 c of 20 Mule Team Laundry Borax, and a white vinegar rinse. Other materials, I wipe down with lemon ammonia outside in the sun to dry.
Mold and mildew odors never come out of some things especially old trunks. Never buy a trunk that stinks. Also dresser drawers are difficult to make "fresh" again.
put everything in a box with cedar chips,or baking soda and place outside in the sun
