I had crab legs in the fridge and some of the liquid leaked...now it smells like fish. I have wiped and sprayed and it still smells! Any ideas???
Did you try washing it with white vinegar?
Throw away any older foods that may have picked up the smell. Then place charcoal bricks inside in bowls.
Also, if you have an icemaker, empty out the ice and wash the bin well. Make sure you empty out opened foods there too. Wash really good and put charcoal there too!
P.S. You must remove shelves and veggie bins, wash these with hot water and clean around and under them...smells can be spills seeped down in crevices!
I would certainly leave it unplugged and let it air out for a while. Are you sure something is rotten in there? Make sure to check the drawers and the very bottom of the fridge. I thought bleach cleaned the smell out of anything. Does anyone else have a better suggestion here?
maybe pull fridge away from wall, clean under and behind, too.
We used charcoal and baking powder on newspaper. First, clean the shelves with liquid soap and warm water. Air dry with a fan to hurry the process. Next cover shelves with newspaper. Spread baking soda on paper and add a generous amount of charcoal,(We used a 10 lb bag).Close it up and wait at least a day. Worked for us after a hurricane took power out for a week in our vacation home.
There is often a pull-out tray on the very bottom of the fridge where water goes when the freezer automatically defrosts. Pull that out and scrub it down good.
I had this happen to me. The power went out when I was away. Things that spoiled inside the freezer actually went into the insulation. You may have to do what the others suggest and leave it outside for a couple days. If that doesn't help, you may have to take the lining out. I hope that helps.
Rinse the fridge with vinegar water, it helps with a lot of odors and has great antibacterial and anti fungal properties. Make sure to include the gasket around the doors, they can get mold and mildew inside the crevices. I agree with cleaning under the drawers and in all the crevices the drawers go into. Most of the shelves in the fridge door should come out easily also, take them out and wash them inside and out too.
Look behind and under the fridge to make sure that something didn't, in fact, die there.
Did you check under the fridge? How about the drip pan under the fridge? Smells often come from that pan. Hunt around for it and pull it out carefully as it will spill.
Could have a dead mouse in the works at the back.......
