Goo gone?
Hello Tilly :) The following links (from Hunker, which bases its info on the Smithsonian Museum Cinservation Institute) should be of help to you. I should think if anyone would know anything about removing stains and "stuff" from clothing it would be an historically based museum that must deal with all sorts of stains and "mess" on cloth:

Good Luck, and thanks for using HOMETALK for solutions ;)
Try placing folded paper towels on the glue and use a blow dryer to loosen up the glue and let it melt into the paper towels.
Goo Gone will do it and won't harm the cloth as I use it to pre-treat stains all the time!
