Buy some old filing cabinets paint them in different colors each drawer and your kids will love them stack'em high just make sure you attach them together so they don't fall kids love that stuff
Divide everything in half. Each is responsible for their half of the room, dust, vacuum, etc. If additional furniture is needed, shop thrift, second hand or Goodwill type stores. Give them each a laundry basket for the closet and teach them how to do laundry if they don't know aleady. This also means how to sew on a loose or missing button, properly iron a dress shirt, blouse, slacks, skirt or dress. And or steam items if you have a steamer. Reward tidiness with an extra priviledge or movie ticket, etc. My parents taught my brother and I all the same stuff, there were no "girl chores" or "boy chores" - my brother can cook, clean, iron, sew better than most women I know. I know how to change oil, swing a hamner and do "guy" related activities. Even if you have the luxury of hiring out, you will know how to do the job which will serve them well in adulthood.
Depending on the size of the room, twin beds, separate bureaus, divided closet, personal color choices for bedding. I'd suggest a family discussion regarding needs and compromises. Best of luck.
I love bins and cubbies for kids of any age.

The room size and closet space would be more information for Hometalk to help you. Please give more information.
Elevate the beds and use under the bed storage. A good purge of the room can identify things no longer needed.
