I have cement floors. Can I place place peel and stick tiles directly on the cement or do I need underlayment or something else?
Has it been a long time since you tried laminate? The first time I tried it, I didn't like it for it required glue...I now have laminate that I love. I installed it myself ... make sure you put down a insulating barrier... clip laminate boards together and you are through. OR you could try the vinyl that you loose lay...no glue required...I have this also. Both of these are super easy to clean and always look brand new.
seal and paint.
A friend painted hers. She didn't have a lot of money, so she taped a checkerboard design, and painted away. She then coated it with polyurethane to seal it. She also used a stain on a small portion of her floor in the mudroom and sealed that. Both look pretty nice.
Try products that are made for garage floors. Links below. I used a product that involved a base coat, sprinkling of paint chips and a sealant (sold as a kit, example below). It was very durable and it looked like vinyl flooring (more or less) I did this to a basement that also had occasional leaks and it held up well. It looked very nice when done.

Start by sweeping the area where you'll paint. Homedepot or Lowe's has many different kind of textures, colors and shades. You can use a long handled roller, to roll on the paint. Stop by either store and see what they have. Talk to an employee about what you want to do, the'll be glad to help you.
