Many build a flat screen cabinet over the fireplace to hide their TVs.... https://www.houzz.com/hide-tv-over-fireplace?m_refid=olm_google_176596187_9773988227_aud-81833642267:dsa-88990102187&pos=1t3&device=c&nw=g&matchtype=b&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9uHOBRDtARIsALtCa94WLJFdjOK1j0WucctQhQSgwziU4hFdvG9kI1vV_jYzqmdkkLE-6mEaAu2MEALw_wcB

On new construction you build a section set back in the wall with a lower or rising picture. There is furniture that has a rising area for tv's
If your having the home built just have them bump out the walls surrounding the TV and have them add all of the necessary hardwiring and such so that it is now deep into wall yes you will lose a few inches in that room because you need to bump out an entire wall but you can add a piece of art or a mirror in front of the TV and no one would ever know it's their. It will mean a change in Floorplan so you have to decide quickly and it will be an additional cost. But how often does one get to build a home the way they want it? Ust a thought.
Today most flat screens are too big for a cabinet. If you hide it behind a painting the painting has to go up or over in order to view the TV. Let's say you build a box to hang on the wall and house the TV and you want the front of the box to be a painting. Now the painting has to be split in two so that each half can slide sideways or be hinged to swing and reveal the TV. The smallest man-size screen starts at 40 inches for that you would need 80+ inches of wall space. Can you allow youself to think in terms of a credenza with the TV on top (there is a lot of gear that needs to be near the TV). Pehaps you could paint the wall behind the TV an accent color and install some shelves around the TV to give it a feeling that it's built in and not a floating black hole. Or if you have the room, maybe a credenza flanked by bookcases with a connecting bridge across the top. It is really hard to hide something that big and that black. Ikea had a "cabinet" that had two sliding doors that when open exposed the TV and covered shelves on each side and when the doors were closed the shelves were exposed. I have seen a TV covered by a painting on Property Brothers, but not in real life.
Good luck, let us know what you decide!
