Orchids are easy to care for. Most that you purchase are in a two container system, with the outside being a decorative pot and the inside holds the orchid and orchid medium. Once a week or week and a half fill the decorative pot with tepid water and soak it for at least five minutes. Separate the two pots and let the water drain out of the inner pot for a few. Empty the decorative pot and rinse if soil or bark is in it. You can put it back into the inner pot if you don't want to lose any of the medium. Once the inner pot is done draining, put it back in the decorative pot. Place the orchid in a bright, but not full sun spot. If you want to fertilize your orchid, look for a good brand and follow the directions so that you don't burn the roots. Enjoy your orchid!

Make sure your orchid is in a bright location, not direct sunlight. Once a week really soak the orchid with water. Drain well. Do not let it sit in water. You can use a 1 teaspoon to 1 gallon fish emulsion fertilizer. Re-pot as necessary in orchid medium only. Not soil. Do not crowd them together. They need air circulation around each plant. Orchids, depending on the type, bloom only once or twice a year, but the blooms last for months. Stop fertilizing after they start their bloom sprouts. It will cause leaf growth and retard the blooming process. You will have years and years of beautiful orchids. Some of mine are 10 years old.
